Bike Week Freedom Rally is Feb 27-28 just outside of Daytona and promises to draw many of that crowd to a two day tea party event at the Volusia Fair Grounds. Organized and driven by Rhonda Lee Welsch, the event is shaping up to be the kick-off of the 2010 Tea Party season. Speakers include Lt Col. Allen West running for US FL 22

What is it about Groundhog's Day that captures our attention? I'm talking about pre-Bill Murray here, (although the movie is worthy of dissertation another day.) Two of my bestest, oldest friends and I are sure to contact on February 2, never fail, and always with a "Happy GH Day". My theories are weak but here's the best I can come up with.
For those of us in the cold winter (and I spend much of my time in SoCal - folks, PLEASE stop using the word "freezing" so wantonly), we go through the post holiday time much like it's a prison sentence. The ice builds up , the biting winds pick up, the snow banks pile up and I get fed up. So, this mid-winter recess is a handy real-life egg timer. Ding! and it's half way through winter. Why, they'll be marching down Fifth Avenue in the St. Patrick's Day Parade soon...then it's Spring.
But, a rat? And the pomp has gotten WAY out of hand. Look at the size of the crowd. This could grow into another Mardi Gras if Jefferson County doesn't watch out (or maybe they are secretly building floats as we speak.)
The groundhog (Marmota monax), also known as a woodchuck or whistle-pig, or in some areas as a land-beaver, is a rodent of the family Sciuridae, belonging to the group of large ground squirrels known as marmots.
But for some unexplained reason I continue to be fascinated by a whistle pig. By the way, the obese woodchuck saw his shadow (did you hear the crowd moan?
